Elevator Image

The first thing that you probably notice about this photo is that it’s not me, but allow me to explain. If you’ve read about my brand then you’ll know where the “living like I mean it,” originated from.

About 10 years ago I read a book titled by the girl in this photo, Katie Davis. (After high school, she moved to Uganda and adopted 16 children!) Ever since reading her book, I knew that I wanted to go to Uganda. A few months ago, I received an opportunity to go love on some babies in Uganda via Facebook message (Kinda sketchy, I know). Knowing that this was something I’d always wanted to do, I said yes, without hesitation. Without running it by my parents. Without really understanding all of the terrible diseases I could contract. Without realizing how dangerous it could be.

After I already committed, my common sense finally caught up and flooded with every awful thing that could go wrong. (And then I cried!) But the truth is that going to Uganda is probably the most intentional thing I’ve ever done in my life. Because for once, I didn’t listen to my fear, or my VOJ, or even my common sense. If I had thought of all these things before I had said yes then I wouldn’t be flying to Uganda next month (or probably ever in my life).

Yes, I’m still scared (even though I’m feeling pretty hopeful that I won’t contract any life-threatening diseases), BUT I’M DOING IT ANYWAYS. I’m growing anyways! I’m leaping beyond my comfort zone. I’m doing something that I’ve always wanted to do. I’m being intentional with this one life that I’ve got.

Back to the girl in this photo... once I get home from Uganda I will have a story to tell. A story to tell about a time that I had intentionally stepped out of my comfort zone, despite all odds, and I used it as an opportunity to grow. I’m simply using Katie’s photo as a placeholder, until I have one of my own.
